The Kentucky football team had a pair of practices on Tuesday, the team’s first double session of the 2008 season. “We had our first two-a-day, they responded by working well,” Coach Rich Brooks said following the afternoon workout. “We went in helmets and shoulder pads this afternoon after going full gear and banging them pretty good (this morning). We had run emphasis in the morning, pass emphasis in the afternoon.” Brooks said that the team would have its first major scrimmage on Saturday, then the coaches would begin making decisions about who would play in the season opener. “This Saturday we’ll play quite a few people and then we’ll start narrowing it down after that,” the coach said. After Tuesday morning’s workout, Brooks noted that the defense generally has been ahead of the offense during the first week of practice. “The defense is a little more experienced at this point,” Brooks said. “We have more newer players on the offensive side than we do on the defense side, so I think at this point the defense is carrying the tempo a little bit. We need the offense to gear it up a little more.” The Wildcats resume practice on Wednesday, followed by a double practice session on Thursday. |
