Two Lexington landmarks are no more this morning, as demolition continued overnight, to make way for a new high rise hotel development.
Demolition crews demolished ‘The Dame’ and ‘Joe Rosenberg Jewelers’ overnight, along with several other establishments.
Crowds gathered on the sidewalk, and people took pictures as Lexington’s oldest commercial building, came crashing down. Crews are clearing the block to make way for a 35-story high rise development called Centrepointe.
Last month, ‘Preserve Lexington’ tried to temporarily stop the demolition of the buildings, but a judge ruled against the motion.
Demolition is expected to pick up again, this evening.
