An early morning accident kills a motorcycle driver and shuts down a heavily traveled roadway for hours.
It happened just after 6:00 Monday morning on U.S. 27, about two miles from the Jessamine-Garrard County line.
"It's just a heavily traveled roadway in Kentucky. U-S 27 is really busy," says Sgt. David Goldey with the Kentucky State Police.
"Some of the first vehicles that had stopped, we were told that they attempted to do CPR."
That effort was to try and save the life of the man riding a motorcycle, said to be in his early 40's.
According to Kentucky State Police, a nurse heading toward Danville, on her way to work, lost control of her car. The car then ran off the road, over corrected and drove into path of an on-coming motorcycle.
"We don't believe speed or alcohol was a factor in this collision."
Investigators say after hitting the motorcycle, the woman then spun around and hit another car following her.
Police have not released the names of those involved in the accident.
U.S. 27 was shut down in both directions for more than six hours.
