There have been a lot of changes from the 6-month check-up to the 9-month visit with my twin boys. I think Jordan and Kristian were most excited about the idea of being able to "sample" some table food. They both literally squealed when our pediatrician said it wouldn't hurt for them to have a little taste of ice cream!
For months they've been trying desperately to reach any and everything on our plates as we eat. But we've strictly adhered to the schedule of single ingredient baby foods, trying out things for 3-4 days at a time before adding anything new and then expanding to mixed baby foods with ingredients they've already found tolerable.
So far in our table food experiments we've discovered they are big fans of mashed potatoes (plain of course) and about every version of Mac & Cheese we've found on Kid's Menus across the city. Surprisingly they also were eager to eat green beans, despite their aversion to the baby food variety of the green veggies.
They still can't really chew. Jordan has yet to start cutting teeth, Kristian has two bottom teeth pressing up but they haven't cut through yet. But the doctor assured us it's safe for them to "gum" pasta, cheese, soft fruits, and cooked veggies. It's always fascinating to see them explore a new taste or texture.
Maybe with their new smorgasbord of menu choices they'll start catching up with their weight. Jordan FINALLY hit the 13 pound mark, but is still just at the first percentile for his age. Even for a preemie that could be much better so we still have to keep him on high calorie formula for a while. Kristian is up to 15 pounds and still underweight (around the 5th percentile) but acceptable.
They seem to be able to eat their weight in mac & cheese, so I'm anxious to see how much they grow in the next month or so!
I regret I don't have any recent meal time pictures of them enjoying their new cuisine, but meals are often followed with bath time since they're still pretty messy eaters...so I have to share these adorable pictures of them hanging out in the "big tub" while I got their water ready in their baby tubs.
Too cute!
